Whether you’re planning something similar or just curious, this section offers a detailed breakdown of each route. Below is our latest ride: a journey from the UK to Morocco, broken into 12 parts for easy reference.

Calais to Lesperon
Starting in Calais, this leg takes you through the peaceful French countryside towards Lesperon. Expect long stretches of scenic D-roads with plenty of fuel stops and roadside cafés. A recommended stay here is Chambres d’Hôtes Lesperon, with hearty evening meals and secure parking for bikes. A great rest point before heading further south.
Lesperon to Medina Sedona
Crossing into Spain, the route from Lesperon to Medina Sidonia is a longer day in the saddle. Stop off in Salamanca for lunch if time allows. In Medina Sidonia, the historical town centre makes for a great overnight stop. Stay at Hotel Almedina, which offers bike-friendly facilities and superb local food options.

Medina Sidonia to Tarifa
This coastal route offers dramatic views as you edge closer to the Strait of Gibraltar. Tarifa is a lively seaside town known for its strong winds and surfing culture. Plenty of bike parking options, relaxed beach bars, and a scenic old town perfect for a short evening wander before crossing to Morocco.
Tarifa to Tangiers
After a short ferry crossing, riders arrive in Tangiers. Expect a different pace, more vibrant, busier, with tighter roads and more alert riding required. Tangiers offers great accommodation near the coast, ideal for easing into Morocco. Spend the night near the Kasbah for food, music, and late-night tea.

Tangiers to Chefchaouen
Heading inland, this leg takes you into the Rif Mountains and to Chefchaouen, the Blue City. Beautiful winding mountain roads lead to this serene and colourful destination. Recommended stay: Dar Zambra, a guesthouse perched on the hillside with safe parking nearby and excellent homemade tagine.
Chefchaouen to Fes
A journey through smaller towns and scenic valleys brings you into the heart of Fes. Traffic increases near the city so caution is needed. Fes is famous for its medina. Consider a walking tour. Riad Fes Baraka offers secure storage and a rooftop view over the city.

Fes to Midelt
This part takes you through the Middle Atlas Mountains. The roads are quieter, curvier, and offer stunning views. Midelt is a calm town ideal for refuelling and resting. Lodging options are simple but welcoming. Try Hotel Taddart for convenience and comfort.
Midelt to Merzouga
One of the most scenic sections, this ride brings you to the edge of the Sahara. The landscape changes dramatically as you approach Merzouga. Spend a night in a desert camp or stay in town. Make time for a camel trek or sunrise dune visit.

Merzouga to Todra Gorge
Back on the road, this section includes remote stretches and some gravel options. Todra Gorge is a spectacular natural formation, ideal for a short walk or photography. Accommodation in the gorge is basic but atmospheric. Look for places with secure bike areas.
Todra Gorge to Ouarzazate
Winding roads and open landscapes dominate this route, including the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Ouarzazate is a film hub with studios and desert architecture. It’s a good place to restock supplies and service your bike if needed. Recommended stay: Riad Dar Chamaa.

Ouarzazate to Tangiers
This return stretch follows a more direct route north, with a mix of highways and local roads. Time your ride for longer stops in Marrakech or Casablanca if you’re inclined. Overnight options en route vary widely so planning ahead is key.
Tangiers to Rabat
The final leg of this ride heads towards Morocco’s capital. Rabat is modern and well-organised, with a more relaxed pace than other cities. Visit the Oudayas Kasbah or the Hassan Tower. End the ride at a coastal café with a strong coffee and a view of the Atlantic.
