Whether you’re planning something similar or just curious, this section offers a detailed breakdown of each route. Below is our latest ride: a journey from the UK to Morocco, broken into 12 parts for easy reference.

Day 1
UK – France
Headed down to the channel tunnel, arrived on French soil about 10.30pm and rode through the night as far through France as we could manage before the tiredness set in…. come 7am we had to stop for a power nap, grabbed a quick rest, and then continued our journey through France, by 4pm the tiredness was again kicking in, we had no choice but to find somewhere to stay for the night.
This part of the journey was hard due to the lack of sleep combined with all the toll roads; I would advise others considering this trip to allow more time for this leg of the journey and avoid the motorways/toll roads.

Day 2 / 3
France – Tarifa
Carrying on through France into Spain glad to be clear of all the toll roads, the motorways were no longer a bind as the scenery was stunning, winding through hills and valleys.
We arrived at Tarifa and spent the night, ready to catch the ferry to Tangier the next morning.

Day 4
Tangier – Chefchaouen
The day started nice and early, heading to Chefchaouen known as the blue city, the roads were fantastic, nice, and windy with some great lean angles achieved whilst taking in the stunning scenery.
I would highly recommend visiting the blue city, it is stunning with all its quaint streets and blue buildings, we stayed in a stunning hotel called …………

Day 5
Chefchaouen – Fez
We took the RN13 out of Chefchaouen and headed towards Fez, the roads and views again were spectacular, plenty of winding bends and switchbacks. We arrived in Fez; the traffic was chaos especially the taxi drivers, we were stopped at traffic lights, when a chap on a moped pulled alongside and advised us on a hotel to stay for the night and asked us to follow him through the traffic, it did cross my mind that this could be a scam …. How wrong was I, he took us to an amazing mansion like hotel in the middle of Fez (Hotel ……) he introduced us to the owner; a gentleman who had built the house for his family who all ran it together.

Day 6
Fez – Agoudal
239 mile ride through the High Atlas Mountains taking in more stunning views stopping off for the odd photo opportunity, it was at this point we met a fellow rider who had traveled from France to experience the super twisty roads…., we arrived at our Hotel, Auberge Agoudal, high in Atlas Mountains, great place to spend the night our host was brilliant and the food was amazing.

Day 7
Agoudal – Merzouga
With our sights set on Merzouga and our dessert camp booked we headed out bright and early as we knew we had a lot of distance to cover (323 miles). The chosen route took us through Boumaine Dades, a gorge carved through the bedrock. After we passed through Tinghir the roads and landscape changed. Very flat and sandy we could now tell we were heading towards the desert.
We arrived in Merzouga at our base camp; after being greeted by our host and served with a drink, we then secured the bikes for the night and headed out to our desert camp by jeep.
The night in the desert was amazing, the skies are so clear with no light pollution allowing you to clearly see the stars…. All while sat on a sand dune drinking red wine.
The following day we left the desert on quad bikes, experiencing the sand dunes firsthand, an amazing experience I must say.

Day 8
Merzouga – Ouarzazate
We took the road back to Tinghir and then headed towards Ouarzazate passing through some interesting places on the way.
Ouarzazate is place we had been advised to visit due to its connection with the TV Series The Game of Thrones, there is a TV studio you can visit along with plenty of hotels and restaurants; the hotel we stayed in was fantastic, stunning place with great facilities and great food.

Day 9 / 10
Ouarzazate- Ait Mhammed
It was now time to start heading back towards home, we headed for Rabat on the coast, we had no specific route planned and therefore set the Calimoto app on super twisty roads and set off. What a decision this turned out to be… the roads and views were amazing every corner you turned a different view took your breath away that much we got a bit carried away, before we knew it darkness set in, we realized at this point we wouldn’t to make it to Rabat, we stopped and checked on our phones for a hotel near by…… nothing the nearest hotel was 2hrs away.
I consulted with the guru, Google maps of course; and came across a symbol of a bed and the words refuge 30mins away, setting the app going and off we rode, the roads slowly disappeared as we climbed a mountain pass in the pitch dark, after 30mins Google announced we had arrived at your destination…..nothing could be seen, scanning the area I happened to look over my shoulder up the mountain and spotted a light in the distance, I rode up the mountain to be greeted by a family at the door.
I asked the question, is this a refuge? the reply was yes… what a relief because by this time it was 1030pm.
We were welcomed in by the family, offered cups of coffee, they even cooked us a meal and what a fantastic meal it was, nothing was too much trouble.
When we awoke in the morning and looked outside it was only then we realized how high we were in the mountain.
This part of trip was the highlight for us, I would like to thank our host and his family for welcoming us in, if he hadn’t, we would have been spending a night in the wild.
I would highly recommend you spend a night at Refuge Ait Mhammed, however I would suggest you travel to it before dark and bear in mind some of the journey is off road.

Day 11
Refuge – Rabat
A great ride out of the mountains experiencing more stunning views heading to the coastal town of Rabat arrived nice and early quick shower and change before heading out for some food and a well-earned beer or two.
It was at this point we realized our time in Morocco was coming to an end as the next leg of our journey took us back to the ferry port.

Day 12
Rabat – Tangier
We took a route that was part costal and part inland, allowing us to take in a mixture of views along the 165-mile journey. We arrived at the ferry port with plenty of time to spare and luckily caught an earlier ferry.
We arrived at the port in Tarifa and decided to carry on riding through Spain we arrived at a place called Medina Sidonia and decided to spend the night.

Day 13
Medina Sidonia – Guethary
Now on our final leg of the journey, we had to be at the channel tunnel in Calais for our booked crossing time, we managed to cover a distance of 676 miles with a combined ride time of 10 hours, it was effortless due to the stunning scenery that surrounds the motorway through this part of Spain.

Day 14
Through France to
Euro Tunnel
Headed towards Calais passing through Bordeaux, LeMans and Rouen before arriving back at the Euro Tunnel, 593 miles with a ride time of 9hrs 34mins.
We spent the night just outside of Calais, boarded the train the following morning and then made our way back home.
What an amazing trip we had, opportunity of a lifetime, a trip that we will never forget. Morocco is an amazing place the people are friendly and cannot do enough to help.
